The bicycle has come along way, since 1830, when the first paddle bicycles came to light. Before them, a number of bicycle frames came, but none could actually catch the attention of the masses. With the invention of the bicycle, the general masses, who could not afford carriages; had a new mode of transport.

Bicycles soon became an important mode of transport and continued to be so, until the arrival of the motorbike. However, bicycle still continues to be a favorite, when it comes to transport. With health consciousness, gaining new heights, a number of people have found a friend in the form of bicycle; when it came to losing weight.

Whether indoor, or outdoor, bicycling in both forms is quite helpful in burning fat, improving the body metabolism, as well as other health benefits. Typically, bicycling for an hour everyday will benefit you in the following ways:

1. Burning those extra calories
While you are riding a bicycle, a lot of calories get burned, in order to support your efforts in pedaling the bike.  This means, while you are biking around, you are constantly losing weight. You may lose more than four to five pounds of weight in a month, if you do biking for an hour or so, everyday.

2. Improving the metabolism rate
An important aspect of bicycling is that, it is an effective tool for improving the metabolism rate of the body. As you go for a bicycle ride, you feel thirsty; as a result of which, your water intake rises. This means a rise in your body metabolism rate.

It needs to be mentioned here, that a rise in the metabolism rate would mean, a rise in the consumption of calories inside the body.

3. Increase in lean mass of the body
Another major benefit of bicycling is the increase in the lean mass of the body.  This is very important, because an increase in lean mass of your body would mean that, you are burning more calories, even while you are resting as well.

4. More oxygen to the brain
As in any form of exercise; biking too improves the level of oxygen inside the body. This means more oxygen to the brain and consequently a healthier life for you.
