A very popular perception with saunas and steam rooms is that, they help a lot in reducing the fat content inside the body. As it is, there is another lobby, which vehemently denies this. The argument continues, but the popularity of saunas and steam rooms has been increasing day by day.

A lot many researches have been conducted in this regard, but none could come up with conclusive evidence; although, many health experts agree that, saunas and steam rooms can prove to be good for the health of a person, as it supposedly helps in detoxifying the body, as well as improving blood circulation inside the body. Some health experts even state that, saunas can be quite helpful in reducing the level of stress and anxiety of a person.

Initially, the perception was very popular that, saunas and steam baths help a great deal in weight loss. In fact some people even stated that an hour of steam bath can reduce your weight by 25lbs in a week. Needless to say that, such claims were anything but true. Researchers soon found out that the weight loss, which was taking place during a sauna or steam bath was due to water loss, caused by excessive perspiration. Not just that, such a weight loss was actually temporary and a person would soon gain weight, when he eats some food, or drinks some beverages.

Recent studies have, however, revealed that, although sauna and steam can not make you lose weight all by themselves, but they can actually speed up the process of weight loss, provided, you go for proper workout, as well as a healthy diet.

As it is, sauna and steam baths are supposedly helpful for weight loss, in the following ways:

  1. Perspiration is an important function of the human body. As you perspire, a lot many toxins are removed from the body. As a result, your body metabolism increases to a large extent. When you combine this with regular exercise and balanced diet, it can help a great deal in losing weight in a quick and efficient manner.

Although the debate continues, that, whether sauna and steam can actually help in weight loss or not; few people would actually disagree with the fact that, sauna and steam are an excellent way of distressing the mind as well as the body.
